Oklahoma Sooners could soon be getting some of the best news they could have hoped for during spring football

The Oklahoma Sooners had a terrible offense last year, primarily because of coaching, but also because of injuries. When all of the starters went down for nearly every position group, the Sooners struggled mightily, and it lasted from start to end of 2024.
There are specifically two position groups whose depth did not show up much last year when they needed it most. The offensive line was bad, all year, whether it was starters or depth. And the wide receiver group, well, they went a ton of games playing with their best five, at least, out.
So, it's safe to say that recruiting depth in the wide receiver room will be key. Luckily for them, they could be hearing soon about a wide receiver who could be committing to OU.
Sooners could get great news soon from Mason James
Mason James is a 4-star wide receiver from Norman North High School in Norman, Oklahoma, and a top prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. At 5’11” and 175 pounds, he’s fast, agile, and skilled. In his junior year of 2024, he had 56 catches for over 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns. He’s ranked as Oklahoma’s No. 1 player by On3 and a top-50 wide receiver nationally.
James has nearly 30 Division I offers from major schools. In February 2025, he cut his list to ten: Missouri, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Kansas State, Washington, Kentucky, and Arizona State. Oklahoma, close to his hometown, offered him first during his sophomore year, but he’s also visited Missouri, Washington, and Notre Dame in March 2025, suggesting he might decide soon.
He stands out for his versatility, quickness, and strong hands, excelling in tough catches and turning short passes into long gains. Coaches and scouts see him as a potential top-100 national recruit by the end of high school. He’s focused on improving and will be a key player to watch in his senior year as he picks his college.
He recently told On3 that his decision could come much sooner than he thought, which means that he could become a Sooner much quicker than we all thought. After visiting during an event, the Sooners set up with all of the recruits, it looked like he and Sooners commit Jaden O'Neal really started to bond. That should help them in the race for James, too.
2026 4-star running back committed to Oklahoma Sooners just got a very enticing offer from SEC foe
That would be a crazy flip.
