The Oklahoma Sooners landed a quarterback they made their top overall priority in their 2026 recruiting class in Bowe Bentley, and many around the program already believe Bentley is positioned to be their heir to John Mateer as the Sooners’ signal caller of the future.

However, the Sooners believe in competition and they want the best room possible, which is why they are still in hot pursuit of Alabama quarterback Jamison Roberts. Now, they seem poised to add his commitment to what is already shaping up to be a historic recruiting class.

Jamison Roberts Oklahoma’s top priority at quarterback

Ever since offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and general manager Jim Nagy arrived, the Sooners have re-organized their targets at quarterback. They pursued Peyton Houston for a time before he committed to the LSU Tigers, and Nebraska commit Trae Taylor hasn’t had much contact with the Sooners since the new staff came to town.

However, Roberts caught Oklahoma’s eye after a strong junior season, and they’ve sent the house after him in hot pursuit of his services. Last season, Roberts posted 3,370 passing yards and 37 touchdowns on top of a strong 73-percent completion percentage on his way to the state semifinals.

Ever since his visit in November, Oklahoma has been at the top of Roberts’ recruitment, and it seems likely his commitment will come in any day. It’s so likely, in fact, that SoonerScoop‘s lead recruiting analyst, Josh McCuiston, has finally submitted his prediction for Roberts to join Oklahoma’s outstanding 2027 class.

Roberts will be one of several recruits at Oklahoma’s Future Freaks event at the beginning of March. That seems like the appropriate time frame to expect his commitment to come. If they do indeed add Roberts, Oklahoma’s class takes one step further into becoming one their best, if not the best ever, as it’s currently ranked No. 1 in the country by 247Sports.
