When it comes to the one thing the Oklahoma Sooners have always done well, recruiting, well that hasn't slowed down much lately, either, even after a terrible 2024 season, their second losing season in three years, and second since 1998.

Now, they aren't recruiting at an elite level, finishing near the top of recruiting classes like they once were. But, they are still finishing in the top 20. And, that's good when you realize how many programs there are in the country, and every coach and program ranks their recruits differently.

For the Sooners, lately it's been about getting players on campus that fit their culture. It's just as much about the person as it is about the player. Soon, they could have a chance to land both in one.

Sooners land in KJ Ford's top 12

Earlier this week, KJ Ford revealed his top 12 teams, and the Oklahoma Sooners were one of them.

KJ Ford, a four-star EDGE prospect from Duncanville, Texas, is a standout in the 2026 recruiting class. At 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, he’s a powerful pass rusher with speed and strength, making him a problem for opposing offenses. He’s one of the top defensive talents in the country, and big-time college football programs are fighting to land him. One of them is Oklahoma, another one is Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans.

At Duncanville High School, Ford has put up strong numbers over two seasons: 110 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks. In 2024, his junior year, he had 57 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 7 sacks, helping his team go 13-1 and make a deep playoff run in Texas’ tough 6A division.

Ford's top schools are Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, LSU, Penn State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Missouri, USC, Georgia, Auburn, and Florida. Alabama and Oklahoma are pushing hard, and he’s set to visit Alabama on May 30, 2025. Ranked No. 13 among edge rushers and No. 15 in Texas by 247Sports, Ford is on track to be a major player in college football and potentially the pros.

Miguel Chavis is currently the one recruiting Ford, and he has the body of work to prove to Ford why he should go to OU. It seems like they're getting closer and closer to something happening.
