In college football, especially in todays game with the NIL and transfer portal doing their thing, you always have to be looking ahead, no matter what year it is, and what year you're looking ahead to. The Oklahoma Sooners are doing that with the quarterback position.

Right now they have John Mateer, a guy who was really one of the best players in college football last year, but he was playing at Washington State in the Pac-2, not getting the type of love he actually deserved. Now, real die-hard college football fans know exactly who he is, especially Sooners fans, because they got his offensive coordinator, too.

Mateer can do it all, whether it be using his legs or throwing a dart in the end zone. He is a do-it-all player who will help elevate the Sooners in 2025, regardless of how tough their schedule is. But, even with Mateer in the fold now, he is still set to enter the draft in 2026, which means the Sooners will end up needing another QB. They currently have Michael Hawkins, Jett Niu, and others on the roster. But, they always need to be looking ahead.

They recently submitted an offer to someone who won't even be able to get on campus until 2028.

Oklahoma Sooners offer 2028 QB Graham Simpson

Graham Simpson, a 6’0”, 175-pound freshman quarterback from Westview High School in Martin, Tennessee, is a top talent in the class of 2028. In 2024, he led Westview to a 14-1 record and the TSSAA Class 3A state championship game, earning MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year.

His best game was a 59-54 win over Covington, where he set a TSSAA record with 620 passing yards and eight touchdown passes, breaking his own school record of seven from the season opener.

Simpson’s poise and accuracy have drawn college interest, with offers from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Duke, Memphis, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Syracuse. His father Jason, UT Martin’s head coach, helps Simpson be able to train at UT Martin’s facilities. Of course, having a brother that i a quarterback at Alabama Ty Simpson, helps, too.

Obviously, a lot can happen between now and then, but it sounds like Simpson could be the real deal.
