The Ole Miss Rebels recruiting apparatus has been reaching new heights under Lane Kiffin. Now that the team is set to have possibly 10+ players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft the program's ability to acquire top tier talent could skyrocket this spring.

As of Friday afternoon, it looks like the recruiting potential for Ole Miss may have already found its spark. Lane Kiffin and his staff just offered a scholarship to an elite five star defender on Thursday, March 6th, and then the very next day he announced his reclassification from 2027 to the 2026 recruiting class. Who is this top talent? And can Ole Miss actually land him? Let's dive in.

Richard Wesley, Five Star DL Recruit

Richard Wesley had been swiftly rising up recruiting boards since the day he stepped onto a high school football field as a freshman where he started varsity along the defensive line, immediately racking up nearly double-digit sacks. Now, just two years later, Wesley has grown into a 6'5", 250-pound monster of a young man and he's still just a sophomore in high school.

As Wesley's hype continued to rise following an even more impressive sophomore campaign it became quickly apparent that he was on track to become a Top 5 recruit in the entire nation for 2027. And just like a handful of other top college football recruits have done over the last few months Wesley decided that it was in his best interest to reclassify, getting to college a year earlier than expected. He made that announcement official on Friday, March 7th.

Recruiting services have already adjusted their new rankings for Wesley, and despite being a year younger than the entire 2026 recruiting class, he's still widely considered a five star and a potential Top 10 prospect in the nation. Wesley is just that special a talent. Wherever he lands Wesley should be an immediate high impact starter with first round NFL Draft potential.

With that said, can Ole Miss actually sign a recruit like that out of high school? Lane Kiffin has dominated the Transfer Portal, landing players of that pedigree like Walter Nolen and Princely Umanmielen year(s) after they entered college, but the high school recruiting ranks have been tougher sledding for the Rebels.

However, early signs point to Wesley landing with Ole Miss being a real possibility. He made it clear this week that he intends to visit Georgia, Miami (FL), Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, and Ole Miss this spring prior to quickly scheduling what will likely be an extensive list of official visits for this summer. For Ole Miss to have offered Wesley just this week and suddenly find themselves in the Top 8 mix to land an elite five star defender like him is rather astonishing.

Ohio State offered him on Wednesday. Other offers from top tier programs around the nation had been flowing in for months prior to that. Yet still, Ole Miss finds themselves firmly in the mix to land Wesley's services.

As buzz continues to rise suggesting that Ole Miss' best pass rush in the nation from 2024 is about to see their entire starting defensive front drafted this spring, momentum should only build towards the real possibility of landing Wesley. Princely Umanmielen and Walter Nolen are both projected to be first or second round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Jared Ivey and JJ Pegues are expected to be mid-round picks as well.

Hopefully Lane Kiffin can land the plane with the perfect pitch of early playing opportunity (given Ole Miss' annual roster churn) and true NFL potential (with 10+ players likely drafted this cycle). We'll be keeping a close eye on this absolutely critical recruitment as Wesley's commitment will likely be coming sometime this summer.
