Oregon Ducks lose out on key recruit to a school that makes it hurt even worse, but the silver lining has everything to do with Ohio State

The Oregon Ducks had the No. 2 class in the country last year for 2025. Currently, the Ducks have the No. 19 class for the class of 2026.

Oregon has just seven players committed so far with plenty of their top targets still on the board.

The Ducks did miss out on one of their top defensive targets over the weekend, though there is a silver lining to the loss.

2026 four-star CB Elbert Hill chooses USC over Oregon and Ohio State

Elbert Hill is a player the Ducks have been recruiting for quite a while. He made his verbal pledge to Lincoln Riley and USC on Friday. Oregon was among the final four schools for Hill, along with USC, Ohio State, and Alabama. USC has gained the charge in a big way recently, and Hill visited them multiple times this spring.

Though the Ducks are missing out on the No. 3 cornerback in the class, the bright side is that another program was able to get him out of Ohio. Hill being with Ohio State is a bigger problem than him being with USC at this point for Oregon. When it comes to the Big Ten, it is Ohio State who poses a bigger threat to Oregon than USC.

Hill is the No. 40 player in the country, according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. Hill is a 5-foot-10 cornerback from Archbishop Hoban in Akron, Ohio.

Trey McNutt was the top defensive back in Ohio last season and Oregon was able to get him away from Ohio State. The Buckeyes again lose the state’s top defensive back in this class. That is a small win for the Ducks despite not landing Hill.
