The Oregon Ducks know what they have in their head coach Dan Lanning. From elite recruiting to terrific leadership, he's becoming one of the most beloved head coaches in franchise history.

After leading the Ducks to an undefeated season in their first year in the Big Ten, including a Big Ten Championship, the school is locking up Lanning to be the head coach for the foreseeable future with a reworked contract.

Lanning has been inked for six seasons, averaging $11 million per year. It makes him a top-5 paid head coach in college football. It's well-deserved.

The Ducks are trending in the right direction under Lanning, in all facets. They were able to land the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class in Dakorien Moore, signaling that they're now a powerhouse in the recruiting circuit. Heading into the next recruiting cycle, Lanning and the Ducks find them right in the middle of things for most of the top players in the country.

Lanning is leading the charge, and if you listen to the words of former players, they speak nothing but highly of Lanning as a coach and as a leader.

"There is nobody like that. He comes in as the same person every day and that transcended throughout the building. It affected everybody. Not just the players, everybody around the staff. He made sure everybody was seen and heard," former Ducks offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. said about Lanning at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Locking up Lanning to a long term deal rewards him for what he has done, while also showing belief in what he is building. Lanning is in Eugene for the long haul, and the Ducks are trending in the direction of a national championship team. As Lanning once said, the grass is damn green in Eugene.
