The Penn State Nittany Lions are looking to add on to their already No. 1 recruiting class for 2027, and their 2026 class isn’t half bad either, sitting at 16th, three down from their 13th-ranked class in 2025. James Franklin continues to recruit well.

He’s recruiting well despite never getting over that postseason hump. He can’t get to the big one or beat good teams, and we all know this; however, he has still managed to recruit extremely well year after year. That is why they ended up walking away with a Week 5 win despite losing to the Oregon Ducks at home in double overtime.

“Experience was second to none,” the No. 8 receiver in 2027, Quentin Burrell, told Rivals. “Hearing about the White Out is one thing, but experiencing it… It’s just different. The energy there was next level. I think that is a prime reason why you go to Penn State, to play big games in the best of stadiums against high-level competition.”

Even in a bad week on the field, they’re still winning.

Penn State is hoping to stay at No. 1 class

Believe it or not, you can still retain attention from prospects even when you are losing. These may be kids that you’re recruiting, but they aren’t dumb – they know that most teams won’t win every game.

And that was a game against another top team in the country. But the fans had a massive effect on the recruits during their visit last week, not just the game or its result.

When you have an atmosphere like the one Penn State put on last Saturday, it’s hard for these recruits to go on visits and not want to be a part of that and feel that on the field. The whiteout games truly have an insane atmosphere every time, and this one was especially insane because of what was on the line.

This class — one that has one five-star player in RB Kemon Spell, a four-star OT, a four-star WR, and a four-star LB — is set up to be one of the best in the nation when it’s all said and done. They would like to keep it that way.
