As SEC Media Days signifies every single year, the 2025 college football season is nearly here. It's time to predict how the conference where "it just means more" will play out from top to bottom.

Our team of college football analysts here at A to Z Sports came together and all ranked SEC teams from 1st to 16th by their chances to win the conference this season. Once we found our somewhat surprising consensus each writer submitted their case of a team in the SEC.

How might they make it to the championship? What needs to happen for the best case scenario to play out for all of the major contenders in the SEC? Each team had a writer assigned to convince fans that hope indeed does spring anew for many teams across the conference. So, without further ado, here's how our A to Z Sports team of analysts ranks every team in the SEC for the 2025 college football season.

1. Texas Longhorns

"I think Texas' elite pass rush duo of Colin Simmons and Anthony Hill Jr., College Football Playoff experience in the secondary, and elite potential at quarterback with Arch Manning are all major reasons why the Longhorns are easily the team everyone's chasing in 2025.

The return of two All-Americans in the front seven is the first thing that jumps off the page when looking at this roster. Simmons and Hill should pick up where they left off in 2024. Add in that Texas loaded up on the defensive line via the Transfer Portal, including potential difference makers Maraad Watson and Hero Kanu, and those two should have no issue living in opposing backfields.

In the secondary, you bring back all-American Michael Taaffe alongside Jelani McDonald, Derek Williams, Malik Muhammad and Jaylon Guilbeau. Jahdae Barron and Andrew Mukuba are gone to the NFL, but this is still a talented bunch.

Texas has to replace four starters on the offensive line, but a beefed up run game, dynamic tight end transfer in Jack Endries, and two big play wideouts in DeAndre Moore Jr. and Ryan Wingo make this a really fun team in 2025.

Oh, and then there's Arch Manning." – Zach Berry, A to Z Sports Texas Longhorns

2. Georgia Bulldogs

"The Georgia Bulldogs have everything in place to make another run at the SEC Championship title in 2025, even with a relatively unproven quarterback like Gunner Stockton under center. While Stockton may lack starting experience, he’s stepping into an ideal situation surrounded by elite talent on both sides of the ball.

Head coach Kirby Smart wasted no time addressing roster needs this offseason through the Transfer Portal, adding powerful Illinois running back Josh McCray and explosive USC wideout Zachariah Branch to the mix.

On defense, Georgia reloaded with a dominant 2025 recruiting class with five star standouts in Isaiah Gibson and Elijah Griffin. And on offense, the Bulldogs secured a deep group of four star pass catchers in Talyn Taylor, CJ Wiley, and Elyiss Williams, giving Stockton plenty of weapons to work with.

With this kind of depth and support, the Dawgs are in a strong position to secure another SEC Championship ring." – Kelsey Kramer, A to Z Sports Georgia Bulldogs

3. LSU Tigers

"When it comes to upside, the LSU Tigers just feel like a team with so much potential. Between the pass-catching talent from the Transfer Portal and an impressive pass rush, their roster is one of the best in the entire country. The differentiator for me? Quarterback play. I’ve seen Garrett Nussmeier play some great football against SEC competition, and I cannot say the same about some of the other contenders for the conference title entering the 2025 season.

Brian Kelly still has not locked in the faith of Bayou Bengals faithful, but a trip to the SEC title game could go a long way. Alongside that sort of accomplishment and performance, the Tigers would also grab a notable berth in the College Football Playoff." – Adam Holt, A to Z Sports LSU Tigers

4. Alabama Crimson Tide

"The Alabama Crimson Tide flying under the radar for the first time in decades doesn't seem right. This is the second year of the Kalen DeBoer era, and with key figures like Jalen Milroe and Tyler Booker gone, it's going to be a very different version of the Crimson Tide in 2025. But different has the chance to be a good, perhaps really good thing. To be better than they were in 2024, the team needs better discipline. I think Kalen DeBoer will bring that back after some hiccups last year.

They also need more consistent play from the quarterback position. If Kalen DeBoer is hitching his wagon to Ty Simpson, I think it's for a good reason. The offensive line is still good. The best WR in the country not named Jeremiah Smith wears Crimson. The defense returns players like Keon Sabb, Deontae Lawson, and LT Overton. With a schedule that excludes the likes of Texas, Ole Miss, and Florida, Alabama will be motivated to take down Vanderbilt and Oklahoma and get back to where they belong in the SEC–near the top." – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports Alabama Crimson Tide

5. South Carolina Gamecocks

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't LaNorris Sellers-pilled, but there's more to it than banking on a hyper-athletic dual-threat quarterback. Sellers is intriguing and should take another step forward in year two as a starter, but the Gamecocks' roster is loaded with freaks who put immense pressure on opposing teams to execute at a high level.

I'm concerned with how they'll replace star safety Nick Emmanwori and several defensive linemen, but Shane Beamer's staff has earned some trust when it comes to identifying and developing raw athletes. Future first round edge rusher Dylan Stewart and Sellers are foundational pieces who will give the Gamecocks a chance to win every game." – Ian Valentino, A to Z Sports

6. Florida Gators

"The Florida Gators are the biggest wild card in the 2025 season. Head coach Billy Napier is entering his fourth season as the head coach, and it’s make-or-break for his tenure in Gainesville.

The Gators being successful this year boils down to three things that no other team in the nation has all together:

– Superstar QB DJ Lagway
– Top-5 OL
– Top-10 DL and defense

If the Gators live up to their potential this year, a national championship isn’t crazy to talk about. One thing that can hold them back is the nation’s toughest schedule for the second consecutive year. If they play well all year and come together like they did for the final stretch of last year, they will surprise people." – Tyler Forness, A to Z Sports Florida Gators

7. Ole Miss Rebels

"The Ole Miss Rebels surprisingly rank as the fifth most likely SEC team to make the College Football Playoff despite all their losses to the NFL this offseason. Why?

The schedule sets up perfectly so most of their toughest games are at home, with a cupcake away slate.

New starting quarterback Austin Simmons has an even better arm than Jaxson Dart does–self admission via Dart himself multiple times this spring.

Lane Kiffin brought in yet another top five Transfer Portal class this offseason to supplement what was already an impressive returning roster of talent at critical positions.

The wide receiver group will need to gel with Simmons. The completely revamped secondary will need to hold up against tough SEC competition. However, it looks like the Rebels are being completely slept on by the vast majority of the public simply because of what they're having to replace." – Travis May, A to Z Sports College Football Managing Editor

8. Texas A&M Aggies

"Texas A&M enters an interesting season, and I expect a substantial step under head coach Mike Elko in his second year. On offense, this group will be led by one of the better offensive lines in all of college football. They also have one of the more underrated running backs in college football in Le’Veon Moss, and a deep backfield alongside him with Reuben Owens and Amari Daniels in the fold. With a full offseason of Marcel Reed as the starting quarterback, he has a chance to get more comfortable with his reworked wide receiver room (look out for KC Concepcion to star). This has a chance to be a stellar offensive attack in 2025.

On defense, there is some overhaul up front, but the secondary is one of the best in the country. The secondary is led by Will Lee and potential breakout Dalton Brooks with a chance to be a very deep group. The linebackers should also be good, making for a very experienced unit. If the defensive line can play at a solid level, this has a chance to be one of the better defenses in the conference." – Ryan Roberts, A to Z Sports Notre Dame Fighting Irish

9. Oklahoma Sooners

"Is it far-fetched to say that the Oklahoma Sooners can become maybe the fifth best team in the SEC in 2025 after the abysmal season they just had? Perhaps. But, this is college football, and this season may have some of the best parity we have had in some time when it comes to the best football conference there is.

Sure, the Sooners have the hardest schedule in the country. They did last year too, or at least one of the hardest, and without an offense (no literally, it feels like their offensive players played defense more than they did offense) they still managed to win two SEC games–losing three others by no more than two touchdowns. Had they won those games, all of which were very winnable, they would have had five SEC wins, good enough for fourth in the SEC.

With an improved offense that includes one of the best QBs in the country last year in John Mateer, an improved offensive scheme, a deeper wide receiver room, and virtually the same defense, the Sooners should be a pretty good team." – Justin Churchill, A to Z Sports Oklahoma Sooners

10. Tennessee Volunteers

"The Tennessee Vols are a tough team to project given that they essentially just traded their former five star quarterback Nico Iamaleava away to UCLA for Joey Aguilar (who joined after the NIL mess of Nico's this spring).

The defense should still be a special group led by linebacker Arion Carter and potential first round NFL Draft pick cornerback Jermod McCoy. The offensive line will be plugging in three new starters, but they might actually be better than last season thanks to five star freshman David Sanders and a couple transfers.

There are certainly questions at quarterback and among the revamped wide receiver room that will lean heavily upon sophomore breakout candidate Mike Matthews, but the Vols just made the playoff last year already. And this roster might actually be just a tick better given their experience together for the most part." – Travis May, A to Z Sports College Football Managing Editor

Best sleeper team to make SEC Championship

11. Auburn Tigers

"I think that in year three under Hugh Freeze the Auburn Tigers need to show some growth and start piecing together wins. Looking at their schedule, I’d expect them to win at least seven games, which would be their most in a season since 2019. That would mark a step in the right direction for Freeze’s program.

A lot of Auburn’s success will rest on the shoulders of likely starting quarterback Jackson Arnold. The Oklahoma transfer needs to take a step forward from last season, and he has a strong group of wide receivers to help him do it. I expect Auburn’s offense to show real promise at times, led by Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton. If the offensive aerial attack can carry them, Auburn could surprise the entire SEC." – Brandon Little, A to Z Sports Ohio State Buckeyes

Best of the rest in the SEC

12. Missouri Tigers
13. Vanderbilt Commodores
14. Arkansas Razorbacks
15. Kentucky Wildcats
16. Mississippi State Bulldogs

This final group of five teams was ranked no higher than 11th in the conference by any writer on the A to Z Sports staff.

There's a ton of new moving pieces with Missouri (at QB and WR especially). Vanderbilt is always going to be a scrappy competitive squad with Diego Pavia at QB, but they just don't have the depth of talent. Arkansas has real potential to be a complete mess unless Taylen Green completely flips the script on his consistency, cashing in on his athleticism. The Kentucky Wildcats have one of their worst rosters in years and Mississippi State is likely set to go winless in the conference.

Better luck next year for this group.
