Early transfer portal expectations for the Texas A&M Aggies, and what holes need to be filled most this offseason
An early transfer portal primer for the Texas A&M Aggies as they look to compete at the top of the SEC again.
The Texas A&M Aggies are gearing up for another postseason run in 2026 after a strong 11-1 season in 2025. However, they’ll have plenty of needs to address in the offseason on both sides of the ball if they want to improve upon their success this season.
The Aggies have been tremendous adding talent out of the portal under head coach Mike Elko. Several players like KC Concepcion, Mario Craver, Tyler Onyedim, Will Lee III, and Cashius Howell have been tremendous transfer additions for A&M, and they’re set to pursue even more talented options out of the portal this cycle.
I’d expect them to remain plenty aggressive this offseason in an effort to pursue the top players available once again as they try to push for the SEC Championship next season. What positions do they need to target most in the offseason?
Texas A&M transfer portal needs
Offensive Line
A&M will have to replace virtually every starter on the offensive line heading into next season. They’ll have Mark Nabou return at center, and internally, they like Robbie Bourdon as the replacement at right tackle for Dametrious Crownover. They’ll have to replace both guards, as Chase Bisontis and Ar’maj Reed-Adams are NFL-bound, as well as left tackle Trey Zuhn III and swing tackle Reuben Fatheree II.
They have some internal options they like at both spots, notably Blake Ivy and Tyler Thomas along the interior, but that’s a lot of inexperience up front to protect Marcel Reed. In the SEC, they can’t afford that, especially when they have to take on defensive fronts like LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas next season.
Defensive Line
Mike Elko was frustrated at their poor play in the trenches against Miami, and next year might be even worse if they don’t stock up on talent in the offseason. Cashius Howell, Tyler Onyedim, Albert Regis, and Dayon Hayes are all departing, leaving a void in talent up front. They like DJ Hicks and Landon Rink at defensive tackle, but their outside pass rush desperately needs a boost in the portal, and they need to add real space eaters up front to shore up their run defense.
Wide Receiver
The Aggies already have Mario Craver and Ashton Bethel-Roman returning, but they need someone to step up to fill the void left by KC Concepcion’s departure to the NFL. Fortunately, it already sounds like they are taking significant steps to do just that. They’ll need as much talent as they can get around Marcel Reed if they want him to take that next step as a passer in 2026.
Cornerback
Will Lee III and Tyreek Chappell are both off to the league, and Jayvon Thomas entered the transfer portal this cycle. That’s over 1,200 snaps left to replace and the depth behind them to do so. I imagine Jordan Shaw will step up into Chappell’s spot as the team’s nickel corner, and they return Dezz Ricks outside, but they need to find another starter outside and restock their playable depth here in the secondary.
Linebacker
This largely depends on what Taurean York decides in regards to his NFL future, but I think the linebacker room was one of A&M’s biggest struggles in stopping the run last season. Daymion Sanford had one of the worst missed tackle rates in the country, and York is simply too small to consistently hold up at the point of attack in the SEC. With Scooby Williams off to the league and reserve Tristan Jernigan portaling out, their depth and starting talent takes a hit, and they need to fix this critical position moving forward.
Kicker
The Aggies tried two different kickers this season, and both flunked each test they had. No need to sugarcoat it, this has to be a priority fix in the offseason.
