One problematic area continues to be kryptonite for Texas A&M, and it could cost them in a College Football Playoff push
The Texas A&M Aggies have a reoccurring problem, and it’s been a real kicker to try and solve
Not much has gone wrong for the Texas A&M Aggies in 2025. They are 11-0 with a prolific offense and dominant defense, and have chewed up and spit out every opponent on their schedule. The Aggies have a Heisman candidate under center, a Biletnikoff candidate at WR, a Nagurski finalist on the defensive line, and a coaching staff that has them playing at their highest level in decades.
However, there is one area that has been a problem for A&M all season, and it reared its ugly head again in their blowout 48-0 victory over Samford: their kicking. No matter what they’ve tried there, it’s been a problem all season, and when the margins close in the postseason, it could be something that catches up to the Aggies.
Kicking woes catching up to Aggies
For most of the season, the Aggies have trotted out Randy Bond to handle their kicking duties. He’s handled extra points well, making all 36. However, his field goal numbers have been atrocious, sitting at 11-18, including 0-3 from 50+ on the season. Last week against South Carolina, Bond went 1-3, which matters in a game A&M only won by a single point.
In an effort to switch things up against Samford, the Aggies turned to Jared Zirkel, who started the year as the team’s kicker. It didn’t make much of a difference, as he also missed a field goal, going 2-3.
Listen, it hasn’t mattered much for A&M over the last several games. The offense is putting up enough points every game to make up for the fact that they may or may not have a single kicker on the roster.
However, when it comes time for the postseason, these small things are often the difference between wins and losses. Right now, A&M’s kicking woes are the kryptonite of this team, and if a game comes down to a kick, I don’t know if you can trust either kicker down the stretch.
