Strange as it may sound, No. 5 Texas wants to send a message to the SEC on Saturday against No. 25 Vanderbilt.
The Longhorns aren’t dead, despite last week’s loss to the second-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. Far from it.
“Naturally, you know, we’re a prideful group,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. “We want to play better than we did. I do think we have a lot to prove, and I think we've got a chip on our shoulder.”

The Horns (6-1, 2-1 SEC) are once again more than two-touchdown favorites against the Commodores (5-2, 2-1). Obviously, being the favorite against Georgia didn’t matter, as the 30-15 loss indicates.
Still, Sarkisian believes there’s nothing wrong with his team wanting to play like it wants to prove something.
“Again, there’s nothing wrong with that. I think that’s a good thing,” Sarkisian said. “I’ve always been a guy that has thrived when I have something to prove to somebody. And I think that our team has taken on that personality as well.”
Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea is expecting a fired-up group from Austin.
“In this league, you’re going to face prideful and tough teams that have identity and have focus,” Lea said. “We need to make sure that our mentality, our attitude, our demeanor, our identity, is in full focus on Saturday to have a chance to be the more spirited team.”
