Many around the Texas Longhorns’ building are speculating Stanford transfer wide receiver Emmett Mosley V could be making his debut Saturday.

Last season as a freshman, Mosley broke out for a bad Cardinal team – grabbing 48 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns. But, after sustaining a leg injury in fall camp, he has yet to get on the field in the burnt orange.

Arch Manning can always use another playmaker. The run game still isn’t up-to-speed with Tre Wisner on the shelf and CJ Baxter getting hurt in the San Jose State game. The passing game, despite big numbers, has struggled at times with Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore having up-and-down seasons through the first four games. And tight end Jack Endries has been banged up.

Add Mosley, though, and you’ve got a versatile guy who could really open things up.

Steve Sarkisian gives his thoughts on the kind of player Emmett Mosley V is.

“I thought one, here’s a guy who as a freshman I think played nine games as a freshman for Stanford last year and I think had 49 catches,” Sarkisian said earlier this month. “So he was really efficient for a guy that didn’t play 12-13 games. He’s very efficient and productive. He’s got really good size, he’s an excellent blocker, and he’s got excellent hands.

“I like the fact at Stanford that he played in the slot and outside. We were looking for a versatile player that way that can really do it all,” Sarkisian said. “He’s got size, he’s smart, he’s a really good blocker, he’s caught a lot of passes.

“And so I think he’s going to be a nice mix for us. A guy who’s not a one-dimensional player that’s really going to fit into our style of offense.”

Texas opened as a 7.5 point favorite on the road at Florida.

The line has now dropped to 6.5 but make no mistake about it, Las Vegas expects the Texas Longhorns to win the game. Florida is spiraling after losing to South Florida, LSU, and Miami. The USF game is pretty cut and dry. It was embarrassing. Then, DJ Lagway throws five interceptions against LSU and you lose by 10 at home. And finally, you get whipped by Miami on the road in a game which was never close.

The bye week came at the perfect time for Texas. Arch Manning and the offense needs to get healthy and the defense probably wanted a break after carrying the team the entire season thus far. All the jokes and criticism after losing to Ohio State overshadowed the defense being elite and only losing by seven on the road in a hostile environment.

But, the point remains, this Texas team is not ready for the spotlight yet. Manning still needs a lot of work, he still needs to get confident, and he needs his offensive teammates to continue to step up. Mosley has to step up but you also need Wingo, Moore, and Endries to be game changers.
