Senior Bowl festivities are underway, but two Longhorns have opted out.

Texas safety Andrew Mukuba and defensive lineman Vernon Broughton are not in Mobile, Ala., and instead will just focus on getting ready for the NFL Draft elsewhere.

Both players could have used some facetime with NFL scouts and executives to bolster their draft stock.

Mukuba had a tremendous run with Clemson before the Austin native transferred back home for his final season. The Austin LBJ product finished third on team in tackles last season with five interceptions and six pass break-ups.

Mukuba developed a reputation as a hard-hitting safety in the back half of the season. He had massive hits on Texas A&M and Georgia players that looked like targeting to the naked eye but were upheld as clean plays on review.

Mukuba also made the game-clinching interception against Arizona State in the Peach Bowl in the College Football Playoffs.

“You know what happened today? Just everything, everything in general, just feel like a movie,” Mukuba said afterward. “And I'm just thankful for the opportunities I'm getting, and just thankful overall.”

A to Z Sports draft analyst Ryan Roberts believes Mukuba’s veteran style will be a welcome attribute to NFL teams.

“Mukuba has played everything between centerfield, two high, in the slot, and in the box during the course of his college career,” Roberts wrote in Mukuba’s A to Z Sports draft profile. “While there are roles he fits best, Mukuba’s experience in each capacity will be a huge sell to a prospective NFL team.”

Broughton had 39 tackles last season, 4.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. His best outing was a six-tackle performance against Georgia in the SEC championship game.

Broughton is projected to be taken in the back half of the draft, but he could bolster his stock as the spring progresses.
