Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida is a top five linebacker recruit in the nation for the 2025 recruiting class next spring. If you're unfamiliar with Owusu-Boateng, he's been widely considered a top-50 player in the nation for over a year now and his recruiting battle has been heating up for several months.
Owusu-Boateng began garnering national attention after an incredible season playing for Hyattsville DeMatha Catholic in Maryland. Immediately following that season he made his way to IMG Academy, the world's premier high school football program. After racking up nearly six tackles per game, impressing against some of the top competition in the nation, he's up to more than 40 FBS scholarship offers now.
Who has the momentum in his recruitment?
This summer Owusu-Boateng has kicked off an extremely active run of on-campus visits already. He just spent some time at Georgia, Michigan, USC, and a couple other schools this spring, but his summer visits likely highlight some of his greatest interests.
And according to Steve Wiltfong, Ohio State just made an excellent impression this weekend when he visited head coach Ryan Day and some other staffers in Columbus.
Owusu-Boateng is "big on relationships," as he puts it. Ohio State has been one of the primary schools reaching out most to him already, but even beyond the commitment to communication with him it's clear he loves the Buckeye's development too. "They develop players…[they] put guys into the NFL and have coaches that care about life after football for their players," which is huge to Owusu-Boateng. It seems that Ohio State has certainly helped themselves perhaps even more than the handful of blue blood programs he just visited recently. But who else is still in the mix?
Top Schools Still in the Mix
Owusu-Boateng just recently narrowed now his list of potential schools to Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Texas, Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami (FL), USC, South Carolina, and Stanford. All 13 are still officially in the mix, but based on his visits schedule there seem to be a few favorites among the bunch.
Ohio State may have a slight lead for now as he's fresh off their visit, but Owusu-Boateng is also set to visit South Carolina, Stanford, Georgia, and Michigan in four consecutive weeks this summer. He's also visited Florida and Miami at least three times already, but the interest seems like it could be fading there (unless they have greater on-field success here soon).
Owusu-Boateng has made it clear that he isn't in a rush to officially commit before the December window, but one thing is crystal clear. He's one of the most coveted defensive recruits in the entire nation. His recruitment will continue to be one of the most hotly contested in all of college football for the rest of this year.
