Transfer Portal prediction for former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover, where the dynamic signal caller could land in 2026
Predicting where former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover ends up after entering the Transfer Portal.
The TCU Horned Frogs were dealt with some difficult news this week when it was announced that their starting quarterback Josh Hoover was entering the Transfer Portal. With one year of eligibility remaining, Hoover has been one of the more productive quarterbacks in all of college football the last two seasons. In 36 total games played during his career, the 6-2, 202-pound signal caller has thrown for 9,629 yards and 71 touchdowns, while also adding another eight scores on the ground.
With a ton of experience and some serious arm talent to work with, Hoover is expected to be a hot commotity when the portal officially opens up on January 2. While he might be a bit volatile at times as a creator, the high-end moments for Hoover are special. The Texas native has all the tools you would want as a passer, and now he has a chance for a fresh start to improve his stock for the 2027 NFL Draft.
Josh Hoover’s career background
Hoover was originally a part of the 2022 recruiting class for TCU. The Rockwall (Texas) Heath signal caller was rated as a three-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Hoover ended rated as the No. 709 overall player, the No. 41 quarterback, and the No. 103 player in the state of Texas for the 2022 class.
Despite those lower rankings, Hoover did hold 20 offers. He chose the Horned Frogs over other offers from Arkansas, Indiana, SMU, Houston, Tulane, Memphis, Louisiana Tech, Tulsa, UConn, and Western Kentucky, among many others.
After Hoover’s breakout campaign for the Horned Frogs in 2024, there were several teams who had interest in him if he potentially entered the portal. The talented passer opted to return to TCU instead under head coach Sonny Dykes. With only one year left on the table, Hoover decided to capitalize on this final opportunity. It should pay off handsomely for him, quite literally.
Best fits for Josh Hoover
There are several schools that could make a ton of sense for Hoover to spend his final year. That includes Tennessee, a school that had heavy interest in him last offseason if he would have entered. Many believe that the Volunteers could once again have interest in Hoover with Joey Aguilar running out of eligibility. They have a couple of talented younger quarterbacks like George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon who could figure into the spot, but that depends if either is ready.
Oregon may be a bit of a wildcard depending on what Dante Moore decides to do. As of now, there isn’t any movement on that fit, but it is just interesting to think about. Nobody really knows what the Ducks will do after Moore heads off to the NFL.
Outside of Tennessee, the other big player to know right now is Indiana. Hoover is firmly on their board of potential options. With what head coach Curt Cignetti just did with Fernando Mendoza this past season, that fit should be an easy sell for any quarterback looking for a new home, including Hoover.
