Cowboys: Two Pro Bowlers highlight list of potential trade candidates

Based on the moves the Dallas Cowboys have made this off-season, it looks like they are in preparation for 2023. Trading away Amari Cooper, releasing La'el Collins and seeing players like Randy Gregory, Connor Williams and Cedrick Wilson leave in free agency doesn't indicate they're serious about contending for the 2022 season.
They now have $22.4 million in cap space to show for it. And there's no reason to think the moves will stop here.
It is estimated the salary cap in 2023 will be around $230 million and with Dallas in the middle of a reload, there will be changes to the roster and possibly the staff.
If the Cowboys want to make waves beyond 2022, they'll need cap space to sign their stars and draft capital to replace lost players. Fortunately for them, they have plenty of assets that could fetch solid returns in the open market.
Unfortunately, many of these are impact players.
DL Trysten Hill
The fourth-year defensive tackle is facing an uphill battle to make the roster. He has yet to live up to his status as a second-round pick, and the head coach, defensive coordinator and defensive line coaches from his draft selection are all gone.
Largely due to health concerns, Hill has only played in 19 of the possible 50 games (including playoffs) during his career. Despite missing time, he has displayed areas of potential and the ability to generate pass rush. Something every team needs more of from the defensive tackle position.
He likely wouldn't net more than a seventh round pick, but it might be worth considering to get anything in return for a player who's yet to reclaim anything higher.
CB Anthony Brown
It might be hard to get behind this as Anthony Brown is coming off his best season as a Cowboy, sans Tampa Bay and Las Vegas. However, given his age (28) and versatile skillset to play in the nickel and outside, this would be the time to get max value.
Brown is scheduled to be a free agent in 2023. Depending on their record, as well as if the team really wants to put players like Kelvin Joseph on the field, it could convince the Cowboys to move on and get a better pick in a trade than they would as a compensatory pick.
He is still a quality player and starter at a premium position. In retrospect, for those reasons it might not make sense to move off of Brown. But if the team is ready to move on to their younger corners, this might be the best opportunity for Dallas to get quality R.O.I.
RB Ezekiel Elliott
Disclaimer, if this were to happen, it would be after the 2022 season. The Dallas Cowboys save $10.9 million is cap space for 2023 whether Elliott is traded or released. Just like the situations they were in with La'el Collins and Amari Cooper, it would be smart to get something if the final result is the same. They only traded one of the two players and need to learn from that mistake.
It's entirely possible they lose both of their starting running backs after this season with Tony Pollard set to hit free agency. Would the Cowboys be ok losing over 2,000 combined rushing and receiving yards for nothing?
Elliott might only be able to get an Amari Cooper-type return, settling for a day three pick to take on his contract. Especially if it's with a contender who's ready to go all in, as the Cowboys seem to rarely be.
CB Jourdan Lewis
If the Dallas Cowboys instead opt to keep Anthony Brown, they've got another defensive back with similar value. A play-maker who thrives in the slot, in a position that's become less of a niche and more of a requirement.
The progression of football is seeing more and more teams use nickel as their base defense, with their slot corner needing to cover the inside receiver, tight end or running back out of the backfield. Lewis has often displayed the ability to do all three.
Brown is able to play the slot as well as the outside, which Lewis has shown time and time again to be primarily a slot corner. His wider versatility might be the deciding factor for which player the team looks to move off from first.
OT Tyron Smith
Tyron Smith is a player we've previously discussed as a trade candidate. He's getting up there in age and health continues to be a concern. He's had the 'when he's healthy' stigma attached to him for almost a decade now and for good reason.
When he's healthy, he plays like one of the better starting OT's in the league. However, the last game he played versus the San Francisco 49ers was so out of character, in what looked like one of his worst performances in years.
Rookie OL Tyler Smith is getting plenty of reps at both left tackle and guard. Preparing for the inevitable day that Tyron Smith has to miss a game. By all accounts, Smith looks comfortable and displays plenty of power in OTA's. The Dallas Cowboys may want to rip the band-aid off early, if they're able to gain draft capital.
