The Dallas Cowboys did some due diligence at the wide receiver position as far as the NFL draft goes this week when they hosted Houston wide receiver Tank Dell for a workout.

On Friday, the Cowboys will do the same with former undrafted free agent D.J. Montgomery as he will attend their annual "Dallas Day" workouts for college prospects who attended school in the metropolitan area.

Montgomery signed with the Cleveland Browns in May 2019 but a hamstring injury placed him on the season-ending injured reserve list. He was released the following August.

The New York Jets were the next destination for Montgomery. Unfortunately, he was released and re-signed to the practice squad several times throughout two seasons before finally being waived in July 2022.

Montgomery did see his only NFL action during that time by appearing in three games for the Jets and hauling in three receptions for 36 yards (all came against the New Orleans Saints).

Montgomery was signed by the Indianapolis Colts in August of last year but got waived less than three weeks later. Last December, Montgomery was signed to the practice squad of the Houston Texans.

The Cowboys are simply kicking the tires here to see if there's any tread worth bringing on board.
