In just two weeks, the Detroit Lions lost two pass rushers for the foreseeable future. Josh Paschal was added to the IR last Friday and then James Houston fractured his ankle against the Seahawks on Sunday. The Lions need to be able to rush the passer if they hope to succeed this season. You saw how badly it hurt them against the Seahawks on Sunday.

It's time for the Lions to call up the Washington Commanders and see what they want for former second overall pick and Defensive Rookie of the Year Chase Young.

There's been a bit of a falling out between Young and the Commanders as of late and they're rumored to be interested in trading him all summer long. The Lions are now in the perfect place to be needing him.

According to Vegas insiders, there's some interest there. BetOnline had the Lions with 3/1 odds to be the next home for Young. Only the Chicago Bears were ahead of them. The Lions can't allow a division rival to get him.

How much would it cost the Lions? Probably not near as much as you think it would The Commanders aren't super tied to him. He returned from injury on Sunday and they only played him 47 snaps. That's not a lot and it's not a little. It's ok.

Back in June I speculated that a 2024 third round pick would probably get the job done. I went with that pick based off of some of the edge rusher trades that had recently taken place in the NFL. That third round pick is right in the middle of what the other players were going for. Plus, the Lions have an extra third round pick that they got in the TJ Hockenson trade. So it all works out. Plus, who trades draft picks more than Holmes?

Recent trends might make the offer go up or done. The Commanders can try to hold the Lions up for more since Detroit is in more of a need though, but I just can't see a pick going higher than a third. I could, however, see the Lions adding a future day three pick into the mix to get the job done. The Lions also have the power to just hang up the phone if the ask is too much. Whatever it takes, the Lions need to stop flirting on this one and just go make the move already.

The best part of all of this is that Young is cheap right now and he's in a contract year. If it doesn't work out, they can move on. If it does, they have the money.

Monday Overreaction. Aaron Glenn’s seat is hot with the Lions

The Detroit Lions lost on Sunday. Naturally, it's time to overreact. I did a lot of these Monday Overreaction pieces in my Pride of Detroit days. This is the first time I'm doing it here and this is the first time that I'm not totally sure this is an overreaction.  Here's the thing. The Lions […]
