However, there is one problem: the Colts do not control the draft. In fact, Indianapolis is currently slotted behind two quarterback-needy teams in the draft order. Including the Houston Texans, a division rival.
Therefore, the Colts are in serious jeopardy of not getting their guy in April. Especially if a team trades with the Arizona Cardinals to jump ahead of Indianapolis. That is what a recent report suggests can very well happen.
Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network is reporting that there is a chance that a team could leapfrog the Colts in order to draft rising Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson. Pauline suggests that the Seahawks could be the team to do so.
Richardson happens to be the quarterback that is being linked the most to the Colts. He has the best odds to be drafted by Indianapolis and is widely expected to be the third quarterback off the board, behind CJ Stroud and Bryce Young.
Speculation from league insiders during Florida’s pro day is the Seattle Seahawks could be the team that leapfrogs the Indianapolis Colts and trades up with the Arizona Cardinals to secure [Anthony] Richardson.
Because the Colts sit outside of the top-3, this is a major concern. There seems to be a real chance that Indianapolis is only left with Kentucky signal caller Will Levis to draft if they don't make a move up in the order.
Of course, there is also the chance that this doesn't even come to fruition and that the Cardinals don't find a trade partner. However, where there is smoke, there is typically fire, too.
The Indianapolis Colts are not in a good spot while sitting at No. 4 overall. It seems like a move up is mandatory to come away with their guy in the draft.
