The Indianapolis Colts have had some very successful quarterbacks over the years. Peyton Manning stands at the top, and Andrew Luck was on his way to a storied career with the franchise prior to retirement.
Next up, the Colts are handing the keys over to rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson in hopes of the 2023 first-round pick following in those footsteps. Richardson enters the league with a ton of hype, thanks to his elite athletic profile.
As he gears up for his first season in the NFL, the rookie recently met with former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend Tom Brady. Brady spoke with Richardson and other rookies Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Will Levis.
The four rookies, including Richardson, talked with Brady over lunch with Fanatics owner Michael Rubin and rapper Travis Scott. There, the future Hall of Fame passer passed along some words of wisdom to the group.
Brady explained that it's not about where you are drafted, rather it's about the work that you put in to continue keep getting better. Of course, Brady was drafted in the sixth-round and overcame the odds.
"I was drafted, you know, 199, I just outlasted everybody," said Brady. "How do I keep my edge on everybody? I had to keep working. "I didn't go 'hey, I'm good', right?"
Colts fans are all too familiar with Brady and his mentality. The franchise, especially when Manning was behind center, had some epic meetings against Brady over the years. The Colts were victorious in some, while Brady provided heartbreak in others.
Nevertheless, this is the kind of message that Richardson needed to hear as he prepares for the NFL. He was drafted inside the top-five and has no shortage of expectations on his plate. Brady helped put things in perspective.
