The NFL might soon be punishing a player on the Indianapolis Colts as the league cracks down on sports gambling. It's the latest development in a situation that has been put under the microscope.

Reports have surfaced that an Indianapolis Colts player is being investigated for gambling on games. According to a tweet from NFL insider Ari Meirov, there is evidence that the said player placed several bets, including on the Colts.

Already this offseason, multiple NFL players have been caught violating the league's gambling policy. That includes Detroit Lions wide receiver and 2022 first-round draft pick Jameson Williams. Jacksonville Jaguars wideout Calvin Ridley is the biggest name to have been involved with placing wagers.

The reporting comes from sports betting writer Matt Rybaltowski. Per Meirov's tweet, the accused player is not considered to be one of the Colts' star players; however, it does sound like the player is a real contributor on the roster.

Which, of course, is not a good look for the Colts. The accused player reportedly is being investigated for placing "hundreds" of wagers on games, and he is a big enough name that the regular fan probably knows who he is.

Such actions have led to steep punishments. Williams was suspended six games for breaking the league policy. Other players, such as Lions receiver Quintez Cephus, safety C.J. Moore and Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney, were given indefinite suspensions.

More details have yet to be released. But the early indications suggest that a suspension penalty could be coming for a notable player on the Indianapolis Colts roster. Which is obviously not the best offseason news.

"We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will have no further comment at this time," an Indianapolis Colts official said regarding the report, per ESPN reporter Stephen Holder.
