After a disastrous first half, the Indianapolis Colts found themselves down 20-0 to the Los Angeles Rams.
The team found life in the 2nd half, outscoring the Rams 23-3 to force the game into overtime. Unfortunately, their comeback would come up just short, as they would fall to the Rams 29-23 after allowing a touchdown on the opening drive of overtime.
Colts Offense:
The Colts were missing two starting offensive linemen today, and the Rams capitalized by attacking both reserve linemen throughout the day. Rookie Blake Freeland was asked to do the near impossible of stopping future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald multiple times today, which led to the offense not being able to get anything going in the first half.
In the 2nd half, we saw the Colts offense fight and claw their way back into this game. They scored all 23 of their points in the 2nd half. Rookie QB Anthony Richardson was able to connect on multiple impressive throws while under duress and would throw for two touchdowns and rush for another in this one. When it came time for overtime, the offense didn't get to see the field, as the Rams would score a touchdown on their opening drive to end the game.
Colts Defense:
The Colts defense struggled throughout this one. They allowed 467 total yards on the day. The group struggled throughout the first half to get the Rams off the field. So much so that the Rams did not punt in the first half, as their five first-half possessions ended with:
- Touchdown
- Touchdown
- Field Goal
- Field Goal
- Missed Field Goal
In the 2nd half, though similar to the offense, the defense found life. They were able to force four punts in the 2nd half and take the ball away from Matthew Stafford and the Rams with a Kenny Moore II interception. After the incredible comeback, the defense couldn't get the stop needed in overtime to give Richardson and the offense a chance. As they would allow a touchdown to rookie Puka Nacua to end the game.
