The Indianapolis Colts Shaquille Leonard (53) gets hyped up for practice between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears on Wed. Aug. 16, 2023, at Grand Park in Westfield Ind.

The Indianapolis Colts defense received a massive boost with news that broke earlier today.

As Shane Steichen shared with the media, that star LB Shaquille Leonard has been cleared the NFL's concussion protocol.

Yesterday, the Colts released their first injury report of the year ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The only area of concern was that LB Shaquille Leonard was still in the league's concussion protocol.

There is no reason to fret now, Colts fans, as just a day later, Leonard is out of concussion protocol and ready to go for this week's game. Because of injuries, we haven't been able to see Leonard at his All-Pro level in quite some time. Still, even last season, in his first game back from an injury earlier in the season, he was able to haul in an interception against the Washington Commanders.

The entire Colts defense plays with a different edge and tenacity when Leonard is on the field. Since being drafted to the Colts, his presence has fuled the unit. And now we know the team will have him out there for their season opener Sunday in front of their home fans at Lucas Oil Stadium.
