Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill generated some headlines recently when he said on his podcast that Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is a more accurate passer than Patrick Mahomes.

The speedy wide receiver also suggested that Kansas City didn’t utilize him enough in their offense (despite the fact that he was No. 7 in the NFL in targets last season).

Hill was traded to the Dolphins earlier this offseason.

On Thursday, Mahomes was asked about Hill’s comments and he was candid in his response.

“I’m surprised a little just because I felt like we love Tyreek here,” said Mahomes. “We’ve always loved him. We still love him. “I saw him out at Formula 1 in Miami and everything like that. But I’m sure it had something to do with trying to get his podcast some stuff, get it rolling. But definitely, I still love Tyreek. He’s a one-of-a-kind player.”

“But as you know in coach Reid’s offense, it takes the whole team,” added Mahomes. “This offense was rolling before I got here. This offense was rolling when I was a young Cowboys fan watching the Eagles beat up on the Cowboys. So I mean, it’s an offense that’s more than one player — and that includes myself.”

Mahomes is probably spot on with his theory — it seems like Hill made those comments to get his new podcast some extra attention.

Mission accomplished. Though I’m not sure it’s the kind of attention he wanted.

Without Mahomes and the Chiefs, Hill doesn’t sign a mega-contract extension after getting traded to Miami. There’s no need for him to trash Kansas City. The Chiefs, after all, helped his career blossom.

Hill, by the way, will likely miss playing with Mahomes by midseason. Tua has talent, but Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL. No matter where Hill went, his quarterback situation was going to be a downgrade from what he had in Kansas City.
