Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt routinely showed off his speed during the 2022 season.

Hyatt, a third-round pick by the New York Giants in the 2023 NFL Draft, made a habit out of blowing by defensive backs on his way to the end zone last season for the Vols.

The South Carolina native only ran a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash at the draft combine earlier this spring, but the film suggests he's much faster than his 40 time says he is.

On Wednesday, Hyatt's Giants teammate Darius Slayton was asked if he's faster than the former Vol.

Slayton, a former Auburn standout, pointed out that he's a big fan of Hyatt, but he thinks he's faster than the 2022 Biletnikoff Award winner.

"It's gotta be me," said Slayton when asked who is faster between him and Hyatt. "Love him, great kid, but it's gotta be me."

Slayton ran a 4.39 ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft so on paper he's slightly faster than Hyatt. But it's worth noting that Hyatt was dealing with a bum hamstring when he ran the 40 this spring. A healthy Hyatt is easily in the 4.3 range and he might've even had a shot at running a 4.29.

By the way, Slayton also told reporters on Wednesday that he was a fan of Hyatt before the Giants drafted him because of the five touchdowns he scored against Alabama this past season in Tennessee's 52-49 win.

It just means more in the SEC — even after players get to the NFL.
