A former Georgia Bulldogs star who is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame will be attending the Tennessee Vols vs South Carolina Gamecocks game in Knoxville on Saturday.
Seven-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Richard Seymour, a three-time Super Bowl champion who was a first round draft selection in 2001, will be attending the game according to Vols defensive line coach Rodney Garner.
"Richard Seymour is coming to the game this weekend with his son," said Garner on Tuesday while meeting with the media. "So I'm looking forward to our guys getting a chance to meet him, get a chance to talk to him."
Garner then mentioned that Vols true freshman defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs reminds him of Seymour.
Seymour played at Georgia from 1997 to 2000. Garner, who was an assistant at Tennessee in 1996 and 1997, was the Bulldogs' defensive line coach from 1998 to 2004 (so he was Seymour's position coach for three seasons).
“Our relationship transcended football,” said Seymour last year (via VolQuest). “He’s just a great man. He’s a family man and I was just able to learn so much not only on the football field, but just about the responsibility of a student-athlete. What it meant to do things the right way in every aspect. He is a great example for a lot of young men to follow. He’s just a great guy. His wife, Kim, they have just been great to me and my family. I have the utmost respect for him as a coach but more importantly as a man.”
I doubt Seymour will be rocking Tennessee orange on Saturday night, but I have no doubt that he'll be rooting for the Vols' defensive line (and maybe for the entire team) as he shows support for a coach that obviously means a lot to him.
The Tennessee fan base needs to learn an important lesson from a team the Vols destroyed last season
It’s an important lesson for Volunteers fans
