Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt was recently surprised with a shoutout from a current NFL superstar.
Hyatt, a third-round pick by the New York Giants in the 2023 NFL Draft, attended the NFL Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles last month.
While at the event, Fanatics filmed a short documentary that showed rookies receiving a surprise message from their NFL heroes.
Hyatt received his message from former Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr (OBJ signed with the Baltimore Ravens earlier this offseason after sitting out the 2022 NFL season while recovering from a torn ACL).
"Don't break all my records in your rookie year," said Beckham in his message to Hyatt (around the 1:48 mark of the video below).
OBJ had one of the most memorable rookie seasons in NFL history. In 2014, the former LSU star caught 91 passes for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns despite playing in only 12 games. He was on pace for 1,740 receiving yards as a rookie which is incredibly mindblowing.
It'll be tough for Hyatt to recreate those numbers while playing in an offense that didn't have a wide receiver go over 800 receiving yards in 2022. But Hyatt's a hard worker and he showed last season at Tennessee that he can put up huge numbers against top competition. I don't foresee Hyatt having an OBJ-like rookie season (those are obviously quite rare), but I wouldn't doubt the South Carolina native, either.
