Pop music superstar Taylor Swift is everywhere these days — even in Knoxville, TN.
Well, at least in spirit.
Earlier this week, a tweet made the rounds on social media that suggested Swift is now dating Vols third baseman Zane Denton. The tweet, of course, was a joke. And it's apparently a joke that's been referenced in Tennessee's team group chat according to UT head coach Tony Vitello.
"When he got here, just so much adversity and different things that didn’t allow him to get in a rhythm on this campus," said Vitello on Thursday. "And right now, I think he’s in as good of a rhythm as possible. I mean, dating Taylor Swift apparently. Something about that on the GroupMe. Sometimes when they get going on the GroupMe and it’s not that important, I don’t pay full attention, but something to that effect.”
Tennessee is set to face Southern Mississippi in a best-of-three Super Regional showdown in Hattiesburg this weekend. The winner of the series earns a trip to the College World Series in Omaha.
No word yet on if Swift will be in Hattiesburg this weekend. Maybe she can make it to Omaha if the Vols advance and her tour schedule will allow it. And if not, I'm sure Denton will just shake it off and let the haters hate.
