The Tennessee Vols are coming off a huge recruiting weekend and one of the players that was in town was 2024 five-star linebacker Sammy Brown.
Brown, 6-foot-2/230 lbs from Jefferson, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 linebacker in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia.
The talented recruit is also being heavily recruited by Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State, among others.
It's believed that Clemson and Georgia are the frontrunners for Brown, but that's not stopping the Vols from taking a big swing at the elite linebacker.
Tennessee hosted Brown on an official visit this past weekend and they managed to impress the five-star recruit and his family.
“I think the biggest thing about what was standing out was hanging out with the other recruits and linebackers and other commits and getting a feel for what Tennessee is going to be like if and when I get there, and how they interact with each other and hanging out with the future of Tennessee,” said Brown to 247Sports.
Brown's father, Mike, told 247Sports that the visit to UT was "awesome"
“The biggest thing that those guys do, they’re genuine," explained Brown's father. "They just give you a snapshot of who they are and how they conduct themselves. We really did some low-key things, didn’t do anything extravagant, it was really good."
The Vols are likely fighting an uphill battle to land Brown, but they're doing all they can to keep the coveted recruit from committing to Clemson or Georgia. Tennessee has made it clear this offseason that they plan to play elite defense on Rocky Top moving forward. In order to do that, they'll need to eventually land players like Brown.
I don't know if this is a recruiting battle that Tennessee can win, but fans have to respect the fact that UT's coaching staff is leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of Brown.
