Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry was listed this week by CBS Sports as a "frontrunner" to break a nearly 40-year-old NFL record in 2022.

CBS Sports thinks Henry could break Eric Dickerson's single-season record for rushing yards. Dickerson rushed for 2,105 yards in 1984.

From CBS Sports:

Dickerson's record may have been broken last year had Derrick Henry not sustained an injury after rumbling for 937 yards in the season's first eight games. Henry is the frontrunner to break this record in 2021, but don't sleep on Jonathan Taylor, the Colts' third-year back who won the league's rushing title last fall.

Henry was on pace for 1,991 yards last season before he suffered a foot injury that forced him to miss the final nine games of the regular season.

The former Alabama standout has the advantage of an extra regular season game now that the NFL has moved to a 17-game schedule. Even with that extra game, though, this is still going to be an incredibly tough record to break.

Henry will have to average about 124 rushing yards per game to break Dickerson's record in 2022 (he'll also have to stay healthy, obviously).

In 2020, Henry averaged 126.7 yards per game while rushing for 2,027 yards in 16 games. The Titans star will have to play at that same level to have a real shot at setting a new record this upcoming season.
