Entering Sunday afternoon's week one matchup with the New York Giants, the Tennessee Titans are looking to put an end to a poor streak that has been building for many years.

When the Giants and Titans take the field at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on Sunday, the Titans will be looking to win at home in week one for the first time since September 12, 2010.

That's right, the last time the Titans started a season 1-0 with a home victory, Vince Young was still the starting quarterback, Jeff Fisher was the head coach, and the combo of Chris Johnson and Javon Ringer ran the Titans to a 38-13 win over Jason Campbell and the Oakland Raiders.

Since that game, the Titans have started the season at home on four different occasions. All of them have ended with losses:

September 9, 2012 vs. New England – L 34-13

September 11, 2016 vs. Minnesota – L 25-16

September 10, 2017 vs. Oakland  – L 26-16

September 12, 2021 vs. Arizona – L 38-13

Turnover Trends

Not only have the Titans failed to win during opening games at home, much of it has had to do with their shortcomings in the turnover battle.

In the last four home losses, the Titans have turned the ball over eight different times. Five fumbles, and three interceptions. Their opponents have turned it over just once in those same games.

An 8-1 deficit in the turnover battle will almost always point to poor results.

To make matters worse, the Titans have never had a single rusher go over 60 rushing yards in any of those games. For run-heavy offenses led by mobile quarterbacks and elite running backs, failing to set the tone in the run game is another bad recipe.

The Titans are currently listed as six (6) point favorites over the Giants on Sunday according to BetMGM.com, as they look to snap a poor streak of opening losses at home and give Titans fans a lot to look forward to in 2022.
