Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has made a career out of dominating the AFC South. The 29-year old veteran has averaged 103.4 rushing yards per game when going against teams in the division while racking up 34 touchdowns in 38 division games.
Some of Henry's most iconic moments have come against AFC South opponents, none more memorable than the 99-yard touchdown run Henry had against Jacksonville back in 2018. That was the moment he burst onto the scene as one of the NFL's most dangerous offensive weapons.
Henry has always had Jacksonville's number. He has an incredible five plays in his career that have gained 50 or more yards against the Jaguars, the most recent one coming earlier this season. With round two determining the AFC South champion, Henry has a chance to reach yet another career milestone against the Jags.
With 71 rushing yards against the Jaguars on Saturday night, Henry will surpass 1,500 rushing yards on the season for the third time in his career. That would make him just the 12th running back in NFL history to reach that mark three or more times.
Henry would join the likes of Barry Sanders (5), Walter Payton (4), Eric Dickerson (4), Edgerrin James (4), Tiki Barber (3), Clinton Portis (3), LaDainian Tomlinson (3), Terrell Davis (3), Emmitt Smith (3), O.J. Simpson (3), and Jim Brown (3).
Henry was sidelined for the second half of the season in 2021 after suffering a Jones fracture in his foot Week 8 in Indianapolis. At the time of the injury, Henry was the NFL's leading rusher and on pace for another 2,000 yard campaign.
Had it not been for that, Henry would very likely be attempting to reach 1,500 rushing yards for the fourth consecutive season on Saturday night.
From the moment Henry broke the 99-yard touchdown against Jacksonville, he has ascended into one of the best offensive players of this generation. As the accolades pile up and his legacy continues to grow, it would be fitting that Henry joins elite company while playing against the Jaguars and leads his Titans team back into the playoffs this weekend.
