The Tennessee Vols appear to be in a good position to potentially steal a key four-star recruit from an opposing SEC program.
Tennessee is one of several programs pursuing 2024 four-star running back Braylen Russell.
Russell, 6-foot-2/230 lbs from Benton, AR, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 23 running back in the nation and the No. 5 player in the state of Arkansas.
South Carolina, Baylor, and Texas A&M are in the mix for Russell, but this battle is going to come down to Tennessee and Arkansas.
And for now, it sounds like the Vols might have the edge.
On3's Chad Simmons noted this week that he continues to "hear the most about the Vols" when it comes to Russell's recruitment.
Simmons also pointed out that Russell, who was committed to Arkansas at one point, is planning to announce his commitment on July 14. And Tennessee will get Russell's final visit before his commitment. That should bode well for the Vols' chances in this recruiting battle.
Rusell is a bigger running back who could be a short-yardage wizard for the Vols. It sounds like this is a player Tennessee definitely wants to land as Josh Heupel and his staff continue to build a well-rounded roster on Rocky Top.
