NASHVILLE — While the Tennessee Titans (5-10) might be out of postseason contention, there is plenty still left to play for. Tight end Chig Okonkwo is one such young member of the roster that is keen on finishing strong.

The second-year player out of Maryland is coming off of his best performance of the season in a Week 16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks (8-7)

"Probably just confidence," Okonkwo said of the strides he's made in the last month for Tennessee. "Really just playing with my head up. My confidence in myself, and my abilities. Just remember who I am, and just giving the play back."

The Titans primary tight end came into 2023 as a very popular fantasy football sleeper pick, but underwhelmed mightily through preseason and the first 10 games of the year. Okonkwo recorded only 28 catches for 206 yards in those first 10 contests. He was also plagued by drops, with five to date.

In Tennessee's last five games, however, Okonkwo has really started to hit his stride.

He has not been credited with a dropped pass since Week 13. Additionally, the Maryland product has caught 21 passes for 252 yards and his lone touchdown of 2023 in this five-week stretch. He has yet to haul in a score from one of the Titans quarterbacks this season, however.

Okonkwo's touchdown reception came on a pass from running back Derrick Henry last week in the 20-17 loss to Seattle in the midst of his most productive outing of the season (six catches on seven targets for 63 yards).

"It was up there for a while," said Okonkwo on the lob from Henry. "I knew I was so wide open. I was like, ‘Golly, that thing is hanging up there.’ But it was a good play call, a good scheme play, and we went out and executed it."

As the Titans look to play spoiler in Week 17 against the Houston Texans (8-7), Okonkwo is one of many emerging players on the roster that fans would like to see continued growth from heading into 2024.

Where the Titans luck has flipped in one-score games

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans (5-10) lost to the Seattle Seahawks (8-7) by a score of 20-17 on Sunday. Tennessee's record in one-score games under coach Mike Vrabel used to be a perpetual bragging point. Lately, the script has flipped. "It's always frustrating when you lose," said Vrabel. "It comes down to a handful of […]
