By opting to not make any major moves at the wide receiver position in both free agency and the draft, the Tennessee Titans are betting big on second-year wide receiver Treylon Burks in 2023.

After selecting Burks with the 18th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Arkansas Razorbacks star had an underwhelming rookie campaign that was filled with adversity. But even with his fair share of struggles, Burks showed many flashes of greatness last season.

Now with a full year of experience and an entire offseason to prepare, Burks has a new confidence about him heading into year two. As demonstrated in his college career at Arkansas, Burks is a prime candidate for a breakout season.

Burks spoke to Titans media on Tuesday about the importance of having a year under his belt in the NFL and the confidence it gives him moving froward.

"It just gives you confidence because you've already been in it. I got thrown into the fire and I like being thrown into the fire, honestly," Burks said. "It just makes you decide who are and what kind of player you are going to be. It just makes it easier on me now because I can concentrate on the things that I know make me better and not worry about the stuff in the past."

Burks also mentioned that being around his coaches for a second season is making him more familiar with the Titans' offense and what is expected of him. Even with a new offensive coordinator in Tim Kelly taking over the playcalling duties in Tennessee, Burks is dealing with the same position coach (Rob Moore) and same organizational expectations.

The transition from Todd Downing to Tim Kelly will certainly not be as drastic as going from the SEC to the NFL.

"It gives me a lot of confidence because I'm not coming in off of another offense, just being clueless coming in as a rookie like I was last year," said Burks on Tuesday. "Just actually being around the coaches this offseason, studying with them, figuring out what they want me to do. and really just being on top of my game."

As for that Tim Kelly offense being implemented? Titans players have referred to tempo and "playing fast" as big proponents of it, and according to Burks, it reminds him a lot of the scheme he ran in college.

"It really reminds me of my sophomore year of college with [Kendal] Briles coming in, having that tempo offense coming in, knowing that there's so many things in this offense that we have now that you can go be free, have fun, and win games," said Burks.

Burks having more confidence entering his second season and the offensive system allowing him to "be free" feels like a really good recipe for a major jump in production. Burks' freshman season with the Razorbacks (2019) looks incredibly similar to the rookie statistics of Burks with the Titans.

Sophomore season Treylon Burks posted 820 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in nine games played in 2020. That was good for 91.1 yards per game on the year, which more than doubled his 2019 total.

Expectation are high, but if Burks is healthy and can play all 17 games, a 1,000 yards season is more than attainable. Somebody is going to have to step up and become the new number one in the Titans' offense, and Burks is a safe bet.
