The Tennessee Vols are ranked at No. 15 in the new AP Top 25 poll that was released on Sunday afternoon.
Tennessee moved up from No. 22 to No. 15 thanks to their 72-17 win against East Tennessee State on Saturday, as well as losses by several teams ahead of them in the rankings (including No. 12 Arizona State, No. 13 Florida, No. 15 Michigan, and No. 17 SMU).
The Volunteers started the season ranked at No. 24 in the AP Top 25.
Two AP Top 25 voters still don’t think the Tennessee Vols should be ranked
Despite the Vols’ solid start to the 2025 college football season, there are two AP Top 25 voters who still don’t think Tennessee should be ranked.
Cleveland.com’s Stephen Means and MLive’s Aaron McMann both left the Vols off their top 25 ballots this week.
Conversely, the voter who has Tennessee ranked the highest this week is The Roanoke Times’ Damien Sordelett.
Ranking teams this early in the season is a tough task — most teams haven’t even played a conference game yet. But that’s no excuse for McMann and Means.
McMann has several one loss teams ranked (including Florida at No. 16, Alabama at No. 17, Arizona State at No. 23, and Michigan at No. 24). He also has winless Notre Dame at No. 8.
Means, meanwhile, has Michigan at No. 22, Alabama at No. 23, and Arizona State at No. 25.
And yet Tennessee, which won its first two games of the season in convincing fashion (including a 45-26 win against a Syracuse team that won 10 games last season), isn’t even ranked?
What a joke. There’s nothing else to say. No clue why those two writers even have a Top 25 vote.
