College football insider hints that ‘established’ QBs could still enter the portal as Tennessee continues its transfer QB search
The Tennessee Vols still need a transfer quarterback after striking out on a couple of targets.
The Tennessee Vols are still looking for a transfer quarterback after missing on a couple of their top targets.
Tennessee currently has just two scholarship quarterbacks for the 2026 season — rising redshirt freshman George MacIntyre and rising true freshman Faizon Brandon.
With the Vols not finding any luck in the transfer portal, it’s becoming increasingly likely that MacIntyre will be Tennessee’s starting quarterback next fall.
It’s still possible, though, that Tennessee could make a splash in the transfer portal.
College football insider hints that “established” quarterbacks could still enter the transfer portal
On3’s Chris Low joined WNML’s Josh and Swain on Thursday and he suggested that some “established quarterbacks” could still enter the transfer portal.
The portal is set to close on Friday (January 16).
“I talked to somebody in the industry today who said they still think there are a few quarterbacks who are going to jump in — established guys — before it’s all said and done,” said Low. “So today or tomorrow (when the portal closes). We’ll see what happens along those lines and if there’s anybody else. I mean, maybe there’s a Trinidad Chambliss out there for Tennessee. You know, a guy that’s played at a lower level and was just under recruited and can play.”
VolQuest’s Austin Price suggested on Wednesday on WNML that Tennessee could look to the FCS level for a transfer quarterback.
“I still think Tennessee goes the FCS route and tries to bring somebody in from from those ranks,” said Price. “And that’s kind of where I expect it to be. I don’t expect Tennessee to take anybody from the Power-4 level at this point. Now, again, obviously that could change. But as we sit here on Wednesday, it looks like, I would say, more the FCS route for somebody to compete — that has some experience and that’s probably won some games at that level — against George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon.”
There aren’t many “established” quarterbacks left that make sense for the transfer portal. Maybe NC State’s CJ Bailey or Utah’s Devon Dampier reverses course on staying with their current schools. Or maybe another name emerges.
Either way, the Vols are running out of time with the portal set to close on Friday.
