2024 three-star offensive lineman Gage Ginther is the No. 1 recruit in the state of Colorado. He's a player the Colorado Buffaloes — fans and coaches — badly wanted to land.

But Ginther, who took a visit to Colorado this past weekend for the Buffaloes' game against USC, won't be playing college football in Boulder. Instead, he'll be playing in Knoxville.

Ginther committed to Tennessee in early April. And despite the trip to Colorado this past weekend, where the hype around head coach Deion Sanders was on full display, he's still firmly committed to the Vols.

The Fort Collins, CO native explained to VolQuest this week why he took the visit (check out their story for their exclusive interview with Ginther) and also that his recruitment is shut down after visiting Colorado.

Ginther, 6-foot-5/287 lbs, fell in love with Tennessee during the visit in April that preceded his commitment.

The talented offensive lineman told The Coloradoan in April that he committed to Tennessee in part because of how real the staff was with him during his visit.

"They were just 100 percent with me," said Ginther. "Like when I asked if the offer was actually committable, they'd not just say yes, but explain exactly why."

"When I asked them where I was going to play, they said they want me at tackle but were honest about playing me at guard if the team needed it, like a plug and play thing," added Ginther. "I appreciated that. They told me everything honestly, not just what I wanted to hear. They seem like good dudes, not just coaches."

Ginther also likes that Tennessee's offense runs "high-level NFL stuff".

"The scheme they run, I mean Tennessee had the No. 1 offense in the country last year," explained Ginther. "It's completely different, like high-level NFL stuff."

As for the hype around Coach Prime, that didn't impress Ginther — not even in the slightest.

"As far as the hype around Deion goes, I'm not really crazy impressed by it," said Ginther earlier this spring. "I'm not sure if I even like it, to be honest."

According to The Athletic, Ginther is a player that Colorado made a "high priority" after Sanders' arrival in Boulder. And they were so disappointed that they lost out on him to Tennessee that a Buffaloes staffer called Ginther's former high school head coach Jeff Fulton to find out what they did wrong in Ginther's recruitment (the answer was nothing…it's just hard for Colorado to compete with SEC programs).

Coach Prime might have thought he had a shot to flip Ginther this weekend during his visit, but that wasn't the case. The best player in Colorado will be playing on Rocky Top for the next few years thanks to Josh Heupel and his staff.
