Tennessee Vols defensive back Boo Carter had a shaky start in UT’s 56-24 win against UAB — the Chattanooga native muffed a punt that UAB recovered — but he righted the ship and ended up having a terrific game.

Carter led the Volunteers with nine tackles (including three tackles for loss), and he forced two fumbles.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel gave Carter a game ball after the win for his strong performance against the Blazers.

Former Vols QB Hendon Hooker shows support for Boo Carter

Carter unexpectedly became the center of media attention — and not in a good way — just before Tennessee started fall practice.

The Chattanooga native missed some team activities during the summer, which didn’t sit well with some of his teammates.

At one point, it wasn’t a certainty that Carter was even going to suit up for the Vols in 2025.

Carter, however, has worked his way back into the good graces of his teammates — which is a good thing considering he’s an electric talent and an elite competitor.

Former Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker took to Instagram after Tennessee’s win against UAB to show some support for Carter.

“Boo Carter really like that,” wrote Hooker on his Instagram story, along with a photo of Carter.

Tennessee Vols

Hooker never played with Carter at Tennessee, but the former Vols quarterback is obviously still close to the program.

There’s been a lot of concern early this season about Carter and his standing with the team. But the enthusiastic reaction from Tennessee’s locker room when Carter received a game ball, combined with Hooker’s social media post, should quell those concerns.

And that’s great for the Vols — Carter is a player that can help Tennessee win some big games this season.
