Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs received some positive news on Wednesday ahead of the final week of the 2024 NFL regular season.
Dobbs will start at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Dobbs finished the 49ers' 40-34 loss to the Detroit Lions this past Monday night after starting quarterback Brock Purdy suffered an elbow injury. Dobbs passed for 35 yards on the 49ers' final drive of the game. Two of his passes were completed to wide receiver Jauan Jennings, Dobbs' former Vols teammate (Dobbs capped off the drive with a seven yard touchdown run).
Purdy's elbow injury isn't considered serious, but with the 49ers already eliminated from the playoffs, there's no need to risk further injury.
Dobbs will be starting against Arizona, the team that traded the former Vol to the Minnesota Vikings last season, in Week 18. It'll be Dobbs' first start since the Vikings' 3-0 win against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 14 last season.
If the Tennessee Vols decide to make an offensive coaching staff change, there’s one name that makes obvious sense
We will see if a change is made
