A former Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator reportedly has a new job in the Big Ten.

According to CBS Sports, Michigan State is hiring Mike Bajakian as the program’s new quarterbacks coach.

Bajakian, who spent the 2025 season as UMass’s offensive coordinator, served as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014.

The Vols’ offense struggled during the Bajakian years (No. 94 scoring offense in 2013 and No. 65 scoring offense in 2014), largely due to roster talent.

Interestingly, Michigan State recently hired Alabama quarterbacks coach/co-offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan as the Spartans’ new offensive coordinator. Sheridan was a graduate assistant at Tennessee from 2014 to 2016, overlapping with Bajakian for one season.

Mike Bajakian is reuniting with Pat Fitzgerald at Michigan State

It’s not a huge surprise that Bajakian is heading to Michigan State. The former Tennessee offensive coordinator previously worked with new Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald for four seasons at Northwestern (2020 to 2023).

Bajakian spent four seasons as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterbacks coach after leaving Tennessee. He also spent time at Boston College and Utah in recent years.
