A former Tennessee Vols player who has flown under-the-radar as a professional player made a massive play during the Monday Night Football matchup between the Houston Texans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Former Vols tight end/fullback Jakob Johnson, who signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans ahead of the 2025 season, blocked a Tampa Bay punt late in the fourth quarter.

The Texans connected on a field goal following Johnson’s blocked punt, which cut the Buccaneers’ lead to 14-13.

Tampa Bay, however, would go on to win the game 20-19.

Former Vol Jakob Johnson has carved out a nice role in the NFL over the years

Johnson, who is from Germany, played at Tennessee from 2014 to 2017. He spent one season with the Stuttgart Scorpions in the German Football League before landing with the New England Patriots in 2019.

The former Vol has played in the NFL every year since 2019, spending time with the Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, and the Texans.

Johnson, who primarily plays the fullback position in the NFL (as well as special teams), has 19 career receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.
