A former Tennessee Vols player has landed in the middle of some pro football controversy.
Former Tennessee pass rusher Jonathan Kongbo, who currently plays in the CFL, was traded by the BC Lions to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this week for a conditional 2024 draft pick.
Farhan Lalji, a broadcaster for TSN (Canada's "The Sports Network), reported on Monday that Kongbo wasn't a fit due to chemistry issues.
Kongbo, who went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft (he's spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos), quickly responded to Lalji's report via a tweet.
"'Not a fit' because I called out star players not showing up for practice, and guys not wanting to work out," wrote Kongbo, who grew up in British Columbia. "Culture matters, it’s called pro football for a reason."
It sounds like there are some legitimate issues in the BC Lions' locker room. And it appears that Kongbo was trying to force the team to face those issues. But instead, they're sending Kongbo away.
I have a feeling the BC Lions are going to wish they would've listened to Kongbo –if star players aren't showing up to practice, there's little hope that the franchise will be successful moving forward.
