The NCAA handed down punishment on Friday to the Tennessee Vols for recruiting violations that occurred under Jeremy Pruitt.
The penalties are highlighted by a six-year show cause for Pruitt and an $8 million fine that Tennessee has to pay.
According to Football Scoop's John Brice, Pruitt will also face a unique penalty as part of his punishment.
Along with the six-year show cause, the NCAA also says that if a program decides they want to hire Pruitt despite the show cause, then Pruitt will have to sit out his first season of employment (a de facto suspension).
So that means if Alabama wants to hire Pruitt as their defensive coordinator — which they were interested in doing earlier this offseason — then they'll have to wait another year before he can actually perform the job.
In other words, the NCAA made it extremely difficult for a program to hire Pruitt due to the limitations of his first year "on the job".
