Former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Gerald Mincey, who transferred to Kentucky last month, has generated plenty of headlines this offseason.
Mincey has gone back and forth with Vols fans and even suggested that Kentucky is going to "bust them (Tennessee) in the mouth" when the Wildcats visit Neyland Stadium on November 2.
While the trash talk from Mincey has been excessive, he suggested recently during an interview with BBN Tonight that it's not personal.
Mincey, who played at Florida before transferring to Tennessee, insisted that his former Vols teammates are still his "guys".
"It's fun, football, you gotta have fun," said Mincey of the rivalries with his former teams. "Some people get a little rowdy, talk a little trash here and there. But those are still my guys, they're still my brothers. Like Tennessee, they know what it is. They're my guys. Same thing with Florida."
"I'm not a big rivalry person — obviously, I went to Florida (and) Tennessee," added Mincey. "Now I'm at Kentucky. I don't look at rivalries like that. I just look at a group of young men put in a position to help change their families' lives with a game called football."
Mincey may not look at rivalries as a big deal, but some of his former teammates likely will. And they'll almost certainly use his comments this offseason as motivation when Kentucky visits Knoxville next fall.
