Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel is already putting his Florida recruiting connections to good use.

Heupel has the Vols in the mix for 2022 four-star linebacker DeMario Tolan.

Tolan, 6-foot-2/205 lbs from Orlando, FL, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 9 inside linebacker in the nation and the No. 28 player in the state of Florida.

Tolan is familiar with Heupel from his time as the head coach at UCF.

"I see a great thing coming out of that (Tennessee) staff since coach Heupel had a great career at UCF," said Tolan recently to Rivals. "He can change that program back around."

The Florida native is set to take an official visit to Tennessee in June.

Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney says the Vols are one of the frontrunners for Tolan, along with Auburn, LSU, and Miami.

Tolan is looking for early playing time, which is something that certainly works in the Vols' favor.

The talented linebacker doesn't have a planned commitment date, though he acknowledged he'll have a better idea of his plans after he takes his official visits in June.

Tennessee currently has 5 players committed to its 2022 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 31 in the nation.
