Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin sent a strange tweet on Friday evening directed at the Tennessee Vols.
Kiffin, who coached Tennessee in 2009 before bolting for USC, quote-tweeted a 247Sports article about the NCAA deciding to not institute in-game penalties for teams faking injuries to slow the clock. And he tagged the Vols in the tweet.
If you don't remember, Kiffin and Ole Miss appeared to fake numerous injuries during their matchup against the Volunteers last fall in order to slow down Tennessee's up-tempo offense.
And it worked. Ole Miss won the game 31-26.
The combination of questionable injuries and bad officiating caused the crowd at Neyland to boil over. A mixture of both fan bases littered the field with trash, resulting in a 30-minute delay.
This tweet from Kiffin feels like he's admitting that his team fakes injuries while also taunting Tennessee. He's basically saying "there's nothing you can do about it so ha!".
It's a strategy Kiffin has used multiple times at Ole Miss.
We shouldn't expect to see Kiffin stop using this strategy — especially since the NCAA isn't going to add in-game penalties. It's effective, even if it's unethical.
But then again, I don't think Kiffin is too worried about ethics. He's almost always on the wrong side of moral debates.
