National media outlet predicts where the Tennessee Vols will land in the new AP Top 25 poll
Tennessee entered Week 2 of the 2025 college football season ranked at No. 22 in the AP Top 25 poll.
Several teams ranked ahead of the Vols lost on Saturday, including No. 12 Arizona State, No. 13 Florida, No. 15 Michigan, and No. 17 SMU.
As a result, On3 has Tennessee moving up to No. 19 in the new AP Top 25 poll. Surprisingly, they don’t have the Vols jumping the Wolverines, despite Michigan’s loss to Oklahoma.
Sports Illustrated also has the Volunteers moving up to No. 19, behind Alabama at No. 18 and Michigan at No. 17.
This is another example of why preseason rankings are completely pointless. I don’t see how any voter could rank Alabama, which lost to an ACC team that had two wins last season, while Tennessee beat an ACC team that had 10 wins last season, above the Vols. The only reason this is happening is because of Alabama’s reputation and where they were ranked in the preseason AP Top 25.
You can’t make it make sense, no matter how hard you try.
