Tennessee has a lot of football left to play before their trip to Gainesville, which is the Vols’ penultimate game of the regular season, but we already have at least one prediction in for that game.
CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford predicted this week how the rest of Florida’s schedule will play out this fall.
Crawford has Florida beating Tennessee on November November 22.
Why Brad Crawford thinks Florida will beat Tennessee this season
Crawford pointed to the Vols’ lack of success in Gainesville over the last two decades as one of the top reasons why he thinks Florida will take down Tennessee later this season.
“Florida’s second win this season over a ranked opponent may come in the home finale against the Vols,” wrote Crawford. “Ben Hill Griffin Stadium’s mystique always gives Tennessee problems. The Vols haven’t won in Gainesville since 2003, a span of 10 consecutive losses with many of which being failures-to-show on Tennessee’s part. One of five SEC teams in our updated playoff projection in Week 7, the Vols would likely be on the outside looking in with a loss here unless they pile up wins over top 25 competition over the season’s second half.”
Vols head coach Josh Heupel will be the first to tell folks that past results won’t impact who wins the matchup between Tennessee and Florida in November.
Still, it’s hard to ignore that Tennessee hasn’t won in Gainesville since before Facebook, the iPhone, Grumors, and streaming services existed.
The Vols will need to exorcise some demons to finally get a win in the Swamp.
